Fabric collage buildings

These are 2 pieces that I have made using fabric collage to recreate my designs. The top image has details created in stitch and the one below it has been done using a soldering iron.

Lazer cut pieces

This piece has been done by scanning on e of my distortions and then cutting it out using a lazer cutter. It is actually made up of six seperate layers that have been cut at different strenghts. I really like this piece but decided against using any lazer cut pieces in my final work as it is not something that I would have easy access to following my degree.

These next 2 pieces were also lazer cut and are simply my cut lino scanned in and then cut out.

Thumbnail sketches

Here are a few of my thumbnail sketches. I quite like working in this way as it keeps my ideas more fluid and it also means im not investing a lot of time on a design I may not particularly like.

Lino printed silk

This is another lino print onto silk but this time I have used a soldering iron to burn out the windows. I quite like the effect this gives as it makes the piece appear less flat.

Lino prints with colour backgrounds

Here are a couple of my early lino prints onto paper with a coloured procion wash on the background. I quite like the effect this gives as it helps to make my design stand out.

Greg Simkins inspired piece

This piece is an attempt to produce one of my designs in the style of modern surrealist Greg Simkins.

Lorenzo Etherington style building

I am constantly finding inspiration around me and this bit comes from a book I got for my birthday back in november. The book is 'The Etherington Brothers Deluxe Collection'. The below image is attempting one of my buildings in the style of Lorenzo Etherington. It doesnt really fit into my work but was a welcome distraction at the time.

Lino print onto silk

Here is an example of how my print would work on silk. Again I have gone for just a simple black print but this time onto some pre dyed silk. This photo doesnt really do it justice as the colours are much more vibrant.

First lino print

Here is a print from the fisrt lino cut that I have done based on my designs. It is just a simple black print onto white paper to see how well it works.

Textile factory

This is the first sample i created based on my designs. It was done using pelmet vilene which has just the right amount of stiffness to get the shapes right. The colours arnet exactly what I am going to go for, the fabric was left over from a previous project.
